2025 MotoE World Championship

In an era that sees Spanish riders being the masters, there is a category that sees other nations emerge on two wheels: it is MotoE. Let's be clear: the last world champion is Iberian in this case too. However, for the rest there is a proliferation above all of Italian rivals. A good sign for the Italian movement on two wheels, with the hope that these guys can one day also establish themselves in more important categories. So let's go back to the 2024 edition, and then analyze the current one which is still in its infancy.

The 2024 World Cup

After his triumph in the 2023 World Championship, Mattia Casadei is aiming for confirmation in the next world championship. However, there is no shortage of rivals for the Rimini driver: from compatriot Matteo Ferrari to Spaniards Hector Garzò and Jordi Torres. In the clan of Hispanic riders, in addition to the elements that have performed well in 2023, there are also some possible surprises such as Oscar Gutierrez (who only participated in 4 grands prix in the last World Championship).

On his debut in Portugal, Casadei confirmed himself as the rider to beat by winning 1 third and 1 first place in the 2 Portuguese races. Podium shared with Garzò (2 times second), with Nicholas Spinelli (first in the initial race) and with Gutierrez (third in the second Portuguese race). Garzò therefore gives the feeling that he can be Casadei's first rival, but between France and Catalonia he closes 2 races prematurely and closes the other 2 in fourth and fifth place. Casadei is always confirmed on the podium, while Spinelli is the real dominator of the transalpine tracks.

Spinelli's World Championship, however, experienced an early decline: starting from the appointment in Catalonia until the end of the competition, he conquered just 2 podiums in Germany. Casadei, on the other hand, remains in the high standings, making a big statement in Italy where 2 other Italian riders are also in the top positions: Kevin Zanoni and Alessandro Zaccone. So is the 2024 MotoE World Championship a matter with strong blue hues? In part, because with the Spaniards there is always to be reckoned with. After the French and Catalan disappointments, in fact, Garzò began to recover on Italian soil and then took off: starting with the two races in Holland and then closing with the final appointment in San Marino, he finished 4 out of 8 races in first place. A string that consecrates him world champion, putting behind him Casadei – who passes the baton to him –, Gutierrez (good finish for him, first in Austria and San Marino), Zanoni, Zaccone and Torres. Another Spanish champion, therefore, as is now customary in recent years.

The 2025 World Cup

The world championship begins with the usual two certainties: all the motorcycles of the various teams are produced by Ducati and have tires supplied by Michelin. The reigning world champion Garzò continues with the German Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE team, being joined by Lorenzo Baldassarri. Even his first rival Casadei does not change, giving continuity to the relationship with the Monegasques of the LCR E-Team in the company of the Brazilian Eric Granado. The two protagonists of 2024 still start with the favorites of the prediction, but surprises are not excluded.

The first success goes to the one who closed the last World Championship on the lowest step of the podium, namely Gutierrez, who triumphs in the first of the 2 races scheduled in France. Podium completed by 2 Italians, namely Andrea Mantovani and Alessandro Zaccone. If the latter comes from a fifth place finish in 2024, Mantovani appears as a real surprise. In the last world championship, in fact, he had finished in ninth position in the standings and without ever getting on the podium.

The rider from Ferrara, in his fifth World Championship in MotoE, therefore seems ready for the leap in quality. In the second French Grand Prix he finished in seventh place, but then confirmed that this could be his year with a double exlpoit in Holland. With a first and a second place, he momentarily earns the lead in the standings. His compatriot Zaccone is a candidate for the role of first pursuer: in the Dutch territory he arrives first when Mantovani finishes second and vice versa, now finding himself at 61 points. 13 less than his rival: a gap that can be largely bridged, largely due to Zaccone's retirement during the second race in France.

And the two rulers of 2024? Casadei, in the aforementioned second transalpine race, knows the only moment of joy of his start to the season. For the rest, a retirement, a fifth and a sixth place. He can still catch the other Italian riders, but an immediate turning point is needed. Garzò is doing even worse, on whom bad luck has actually hit this year. Out of action due to injury in France, he returned to Holland where he showed that he was not yet at the top as confirmed by his results: in fact, he closed the two scheduled races with a ninth and a fifth position. Who knows, therefore, if after Casadei in 2024 the MotoE World Championship will meet another Italian champion or if the Spanish monologue will continue.
