The new 2022 Aprilia models

Categories : New Models

The new year brings great news to Aprilia. In fact, there are many motorcycle models that in 2022 will be revisited, offering updates sometimes more on the aesthetic side in other cases more from a technical point of view. Here are all the Aprilia news for 2022, presented model by model.

Tuono 660 Factory

The roundup of the new Aprilia models starts with the Tuono family, which expands with the "Factory" version also for the small 660. The basic structure does not change: the double beam aluminum frame pairs with the "banana" swingarm (always in aluminum). Even the engine does not change, since it is always the 659 cc two-cylinder front gear. The novelty, however, is dictated by the growth in power: now they are 100 hp (+5 compared to the previous model) at 10,500 rpm, while the maximum torque of 67 Nm at 8,500 rpm is confirmed.

The final transmission is shorter, so you have more inspiration. Another novelty of the Tuono Factory concerns the suspensions. The 41 mm fork is now fully adjustable, as is the Sachs shock absorber. In addition, a lighter lithium battery has been mounted, which brings the overall weight of the bike to 181 kg in running order (it is two kg less than the standard Tone). Speaking of electronics, we have as standard the 6-axis inertial platform (which was optional on the standard version and which allows you to take advantage of ABS and cornering traction control).

Then there is the anti wheelie, cruise control, engine brake control and five engine maps. In terms of aesthetics, the Tuono 660 Factory is available only in the dark version, complete with a single-seater tail. Instead, they are supplied separately from the saddle and passenger footpegs.

RS 660 Limited Edition

Among the most important innovations of Aprilia's 2022 is the RS 660, presented in the "Limited Edition". A choice that includes an unprecedented livery with stars and stripes, dedicated to the victory of the Twins Cup (the US championship dedicated to twins included in MotoAmerica). The specimens that will "wear" these colors will be 1,500, all numbered with a plate and with the "racing" equipment as standard. The particular type of equipment mentioned above includes the single-seater tail, the increased fairing and the quickshift (which, with the help of a software, can also be set in "inverted gearbox" configuration). For the rest it is the "usual" RS 660, which everyone knows and appreciates.

It is then powered by the 659 cc front-facing twin, 100 hp at 10,500 rpm and 67 Nm at 8,500 rpm. It also has a maxisport electronic package based on the six-axis inertial platform: ABS and cornering traction control, anti-wheelie, cruise control and engine brake control. The frame is a double beam made of aluminum, the same material from which the swingarm is made. In addition, the 41 mm fork is fully adjustable, while the mono can be set both on the spring preload and in the extending hydraulics. Also available the 35 kW version, for those who have the A2 license.

Tuareg

The new Tuareg is narrow, tall, with long suspension and with the front wheel of 21". It is therefore a version that appears as a worthy heir of its ancestor, thus resulting in a moderate bike and suitable for all needs. In fact, it can be used at its best for both the road and off-road phases. A "total" bike, therefore, which corresponds to the history of Aprilia (which has always been attentive to both phases). What it presents is an aesthetic in some way "breaking", especially for that flat front on which the "crushed" full LED headlight stands out.

The important part of his project, however, lies in the excellent chassis designed around the engine, that is a 659 cc front-facing twin, from 80 hp to 9,250 rpm and 70 Nm at 6,500 rpm of torque. This engine is managed by refined electronics, which includes ride-by-wide throttle, four riding modes, cruise control, traction control, wheelie control, quickshift, ABS and engine brake. All these components are adjustable, just like the suspension (with 240 mm of travel, while the saddle is at 860 mm). The tank, finally, is 18 liters, while the bike weighs a total of 204 kg in running order.

Thunder/RS 125

The Tuono 125, just like the RS 125 faired version, has a front with triple LED headlight and turn signals integrated into the headlamps. The instrumentation is also new, which can be connected to the smartphone. Changes also with regard to the liquid-cooled single-cylinder: it has the combustion chamber and the revised intake and exhaust ducts, camshafts with more aggressive lifts and an unprecedented air filter.

The exhaust has been redesigned and the control unit (Marelli MIUG4) is also new. These changes have led to the following result: the torque increases (11.2 Nm/8,000 rpm) and the power is expressed at a lower speed (15 hp/10,000 rpm). The new ABS is branded Bosch, while the rear tire is 140/70-17.

SX/RX 125

The list of Aprilia models that have been renewed for 2022 closes with the SX, the motard dedicated to sixteen-year-olds. The profile for the tank is unprecedented, but the real novelties are others: the single-cylinder becomes Euro5 and brings improved performance. This is thanks to a new electronic control unit that manages its operation, but above all thanks to the changes on the thermal part, to the camshafts with higher thrust lifts, to the exhaust and to the air filter.

These changes lead to a maximum power of 15 hp at 10,000 rpm and a more substantial torque of 11.2 Nm at 8,000 rpm. Also new is the Bosch ABS, equipped with anti-rollover (control of the rear lift in case of aggressive braking). Among the options, finally, there is available the USB socket (to be placed under the saddle). Of this bike there is also the enduro version RX 125, which boasts exactly the same novelties just listed with regard to the SX version.
